19-JUL-25 - Foster - 07/19/25 16:06 Foster Note: Meatball is the perfect companion! When we left the shelter and I put him in my car, he jumped in immediately and when I started driving, he just laid down the entire time. He started to adjust to me very quickly in the car and would lick my hand when I would put it out. He wouldn’t lick my hand or give me attention while we were in the shelter, but when we were alone, he got very accustomed to me. When we got home, he sniffed around the place. He didn’t seem to care about balls and hard toys, but I did have a soft one that he liked. He’s been really great with me and he is such a cuddly dog. He likes to follow me around by my side. We were sitting on the couch together, watching a movie when my roommate came out her room and all he did was lift his head and stayed with me through the entire movie. When my other roommate came home and was excited to see him, he was a little wary about her. He was a little timid, but still let her touch him. He is very friendly and seems to just be a little anxious around new people. On our walks he can tug a little bit but he’s very easy to correct. He isn’t afraid of stairs or elevators. I gave him a bath and he jumped right in not seeming to be agitated or scared of the water or the tub. He let me put soap and water on him and didn’t even try to get out of the tub. Meatball doesn't bark, likes to lick, and knows basic commands like 'sit'. He is also respectful of furniture and doesn't jump on the bed or couch unless called up. mw

13-JUL-25 - Interact - 07/13/25 11:58 Meatball had a loose wiggly body when he greeted DJ at his kennel gate, was able to leash up easily. Meatball walked with a pull on leash to get to sniffing the grass, passed kennels with a soft and alert posture, curious of dogs he passed but did not pull towards gates. Once in yard he explored and then came over to DJ for pets and attempted to kiss DJ on face. Meatball placed paws on lap and leaned in for petting. No interest in toys, but very interested in treats, will sit for treat. Slightly rough mouth with treats, but gets gentler with cues. Happily sat on DJs feet and accepted pets and belly rubs while again trying to give kisses. Walking back to kennel Meatball walked with a slightly lessened pull and was calm and curious to pass dogs in kennels, no reactivity. Removed leash easily once in kennel. -DJ

10-JUL-25 - Observed - 07/09/25 Meatball was on inside of kennel when GP approached, watched from inside of kennel near divider with head low. Did not move until treats were tossed into kennel, then with head and body low he walked out to sniff the treats, eventually eating them and slowly approached gate and took more treats tossed. Then sat with tail wag and leaned on gate for attention from GP and DJ and took more treats gently by hand. -DJ

09-JUL-25 - Interact - 07/09/25 13:22 Meatball came to kennel gate with a loose body and wagging tail, he was easy to leash, and excitedly sprinted out when gate was opened, giving one strong pull. After, he walked to play yard with very little pull, showing interest in other dogs, but easily correcting away from their kennels. Once in the yard, he sniffed around for a minute or two before settling in next to GB, soliciting pets and treats for the majority of the interaction. He was just as easy to return to kennel, and was unleashed with ease. -GB

12-JUN-25 - Interact - 6/10/25 Per volunteer: Meatball had a light pull and was easy to leash and unleash. He immediately seeked attention in the yard and allowed pets all over. He took treats gently and had loose posture.

04-JUN-25 - Interact - 06/04/25 16:58 Meatball greeted at the gate with a loose body and wagging tail, was easy to leash and walked out with a mild pull, but ignored the dogs in kennels he passed. Twice while walking to play yard Meatall waited calmly while another dog walked passed. Once in yard Meatball sniffed around and explored the yard and came over to handler when they sat and called him by name. He leaned into them while accepting pets all over, Meatball tried to give kisses. When other staff walked by yard, Meatball watched attentively but did not bark. When walking back to kennel, Meatball had a mild pull towards kennels but was easily redirected to continue walking. Returned to kennel easily. -DJ

Meatball allowed pets all over, he took treats gently, and he was not interested in toys. He preferred to stay by my side to receive affection. Meatball was easy to return to the kennel.

02-JUN-25 - Interact - 5/31/25 Per volunteer: Meatball was easy to leash and he walked well to the yard. He pulled towards some of the dogs. Meatball solicited for lots of pets from head to tail and often. He would put his front paws in my lap while I was sitting. He is very treat motivated and knows how to sit and accept them gently. He wasn't interested in the toys. In the garden, Meatball explored a little. He was reactive towards a dog as we moved through the catch pen, but otherwise was easy to return to and unleash in his kennel.

Certain pets in the care of Pet Resources and/or their records may not be available for adoption or release pending a determination of ownership rights and/or legal consent, such as during stray hold times or active abuse investigations. Please be advised that the County will maintain copies of all medical records produced while the pet was in the County’s care and custody and may release them to the public, if requested.
