09-JUN-25 - Interact - 06/09/25 Per volunteer: Oreo was standing quietly when I approached. He happily ate a treat. He was easily leashed. He ignored the dogs in the neighboring kennels as we walked by. He walked with a loose body posture and minimal pulling. Once in the play yard he cruised around by himself exploring the area. I attempted to engage him to play with the toys but he wasn’t interested. I sat down on the bench, he did not come over to me for pets but walked by me several times sniffing the ground. He allowed me to pet him when I was adjusting his leash. We walked back to his kennel, he was returned with clip to slip as a precaution.

20-MAY-25 - Behavior - 05/20/25 16:45 Oreo was more engaging with DJ, especially when spending time in office with toys. Oreo was barking upon approach but stopped when spoken to and was easy to leash and walk out. Heavy pull walking out to the play yards, some pull towards dogs in kennels but easily kept walking. Once in yard, pet sniffed around and came over for treats but within a few minutes kept signaling at gate to leave. Walked to wellness office and pet explored and played fetch with soft squeaky toys. Oreo allowed pets from head to tail, getting more excitable during butt scratches. Oreo seemed to know "drop" for toy trade and again also responded to "sit" and "paw" and "no". Oreo still paced around office after playing, never settling to sit or lay down. Walked back to kennel with heavy pull. Entered kennel only after DJ walked in, sat for leash removal while waiting for treat. -DJ

14-MAY-25 - Behavior - 05/14/25 17:00 Oreo showed with similar behaviors as previously oberved by DJ and CR, slightly more relaxed in play yard but still not very engaging with handler without treat present. Oreo was easy to leash up from kennel and walk out, pulling towards kennels as dogs barked, but easily kept walking to play yard. In yard, he was started by seeing fans move from wind pressure and by seeing the shade umbrella move with the wind, otherwise body was relaxed while exploring. Would come when called IF DJ had a treat in hand, then would sit or give paw for a treat. Just before leaving the yard Oreo engaging in fetch with rope toys. Swapped leashes easily before leaving yard, walked back with a heavy pull towards other dogs but no poor reaction passing kennels. Removed leash easily in kennel. -DJ

13-MAY-25 - Behavior - 05/13/25 13:46 Oreo was barking at first then stopped when unlocking the kennel and was easily leashed. Passing two citizens, Oreo stiffened and started to growl/bark. He pulled very heavily towards the dogs in kennels. Leashes were swapped easily. In the yard, he displayed similar alert behavior. He would approach when called but quickly lost interest if not given treats. He allowed brief petting along the head and back a few times and became more loose with CR the longer in the yard. He jumped up on CR in a playful manner once. When swapping leashes to leave, Oreo jumped around excitedly. He was walked around the building to avoid the kennels. He would not enter his kennel until a treat was tossed in. Then the leash was removed by hand after given another treat. -CR

12-MAY-25 - Behavior - 05/12/25 12:17 Oreo took treats upon approach at kennel gate, soft tail wag. Oreo nudged gate when he saw the leash, DJ was able to leash up and Oreo walked out easily. Once outside, Oreo was alert to sudden noises, but appeared curious to dogs in kennel we passed, pulling to try and approach gates with tail wag. Took Oreo for walk in parking lot, had a moderate pull at times, but responsive to DJ stopping and coming towards to slack leash. Oreo walked with an alert posture, tail high, but checked back to DJ for treat when called. Had a fence greeting with another dog in yard as we passed, soft tail wag and was easily called off fence. Once in yard, Oreo allowed for collar to be placed and adjusted. Oreo was jumpy to sudden noises - rain on shed roof, kennel door closing nearby - but DJ spoke calmly as he explored yard on extended leash and called Oreo over for treats that he took from hand easily. Oreo also responded to sit and paw for treats and tolerated some light petting down back. Oreo twice energetically pounced up and placed paws on DJ and quickly jumped down. Leaving yard, DJ placed clip-to-slip and Oreo walked back with a moderate pull towards kennels again. Returned to kennel easily and used clip-to-slip to remove leash. Gave Oreo one more treat once gate was closed. -DJ

10-MAY-25 - Behavior - 05/09/25 17:28 JS was able to leash Oreo in the kennel, took him for a walk and then to a yard. Oreo was very nervous around the yard, jumping and reacting to any changes in the yard. JS kept distance since Oreo was very sensitive to any changes, was very watchful. Oreo was tense, keeping an eye on the handler and making direct eye contact. JS did a clip to slip to return. 05/10/25 17:49 Same behaviors as previously, very sensitive to any changes and might become defensive if a person is taking interactions too fast.

09-MAY-25 - Note - 05/07/25 16:28 I helped bring the dog into intake and attached his leash to the hook in wall. Oreo was very happy, a little hyper but being friendly. When I reached to take off prong collar, he was jumping up and down, and was just being energetic. When the prong collar became loose, Orea jumped up, growled and snapped at me. As I was backing away from Oreo he snapped his mouth a few more times towards me. CS

07-MAY-25 - Note - 05/07/25 15:50 Oreo was vaccinated using a control pole for staff's safety due to behavior before vaccines. He would take treats nicely from them, but was unpredictable. He was whale eyed and timid on the pole, but didn't growl at staff. - JP
